Reading of ancestors and a fireboat
The great chief spoke
in his language, Duamish,
of peace
and of the foolishness of young men
who spoke of war
I now find myself
in a far place
walking with you, peopling a place named for the ship
that carried his language to the furthest shore
His message is heard on boardwalks in your gentle village

Fran, you gave me tingles with this one: "The foolishness of young men who spoke of war."
I know too well the greed of old men
and the foolish race that sends the young to battle and to death but at the same time the young take up the same routine and so the nature of our human race continues. In this case I was quoting the great chief who envisioned the end of his nation. But his race did not die, and his message is still heard in hearts and lands as we gather together here and I who am so very old hope against fear that mankind may learn before his world is lost .
